Kigezi, Uganda – The Kigezi Regional Police has reaffirmed its readiness to ensure a smooth electoral process as the region prepares for the upcoming National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries, scheduled to commence on July 17, 2025.

In an official statement released today, Tuesday, July 15, 2025, the Kigezi Police Spokesperson, ASP Maate Elly, emphasized the force’s commitment to providing total security before, during, and after the elections.

Maate assured the public that the police have fully deployed personnel throughout the region to create a safe and enabling environment for voters to exercise their democratic rights without interference.

“Our primary objective is to ensure that all electoral activities proceed peacefully, without intimidation, violence, or malpractice, in strict adherence to the rule of law. This commitment aligns with our broader theme: ‘Peaceful Elections in All Parts of Uganda,’ because every citizen deserves a free, fair, and secure voting process,” Maate stated.

The police emphasized that a smooth and peaceful electoral process hinges on public cooperation, urging residents to uphold discipline, respect the law, and strictly adhere to NRM Electoral Commission guidelines and security directives.

Maate issued a firm warning to individuals or groups planning to disrupt the electoral process, stressing that any attempts to undermine the elections would be met with swift legal action.

“Anyone who attempts to violate electoral guidelines, incite violence, or engage in malpractice will face the full force of the law. The long arm of justice will not spare offenders,” he declared.

He further urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security office for immediate intervention, reinforcing the collective responsibility in safeguarding a peaceful and credible electoral exercise.

As the NRM primaries approach, the police reiterated their vigilance to ensure the electoral process is conducted peacefully and lawfully.
